We dug into 12 months of proprietary data from Vacasa.com, encompassing tens of millions of users and site visits and thousands of vacation home listings. We’ve distilled it down to our top 10 findings about travelers’ browsing and purchase behavior—along with insider tips on how vacation rental owners can win guests and earn more.
A look at some key takeaways:
Searches for tropical destinations are way up, with Hawaii seeing a 123% surge in searches year-over-year and Costa Rica a close runner-up.
Reservations starting on Thursdays are up 70%, likely due to remote and hybrid work environments that allow travelers to hit the road sooner.
Travelers are averaging four-night stays during their getaways, but that average jumps to nearly six nights in January as guests cozy up and settle in.

Data is based on Vacasa.com searches and reservations booked April 1, 2021–March 31, 2022, unless otherwise indicated. Percentages have been rounded to the nearest whole number.
