Ocean beauty and eco-tourism

The main draw of Playas del Coco, without a doubt, is the beach. The sprawling sandy shores offer something for everyone, with the south side of the beach crowded with shops and family restaurants. The north side of the beach, farther away from downtown, is more secluded, making it better for couples looking to slip away from the crowd.

As fun as the shore itself can be, the adjacent Coco Bay provides its own wonders. Surf academies, scuba diving, and boat charters let you explore the waters up close, while ferries departing from the region provide the only point of access to scenic spots like Ollie's Point and Witch's Rock.

If you'd prefer to stay dry but still make some memories, you're in luck - a wide variety of tours are available for exploring Costa Rica's gorgeous rainforests! From low-key journeys focused spotting exotic wildlife to high-octane zip line rides and ATV tours, the potential for an unforgettable adventure is out there for everyone.

Things to do in Downtown Playas del Coco

Most of Playas del Coco's shops and restaurants are just near the beach, making a visit to town a nice way to break up the monotony of relaxing on the shore. Venues like Papagayo Seafood let you experience the delicious flavors of the local cuisine, while more familiar food awaits for pickier eaters at restaurants like the town's Hard Rock Cafe.

Once you've eaten your fill, try taking in the local culture. Savor the unique architecture and vibrant atmosphere as you walk the streets, breath in the fresh ocean air, and watch the trees sway around you. Stop by the welcoming Iglesia Catolica to pay your respects, or stop by the Rojas Bros Boruca Indigenous Art Gallery for some truly one-of-a-kind sculptures and paintings!

Day trips from Playas del Coco

More seaside fun awaits at Playa Hermosa - the ocean village just to the north, with dark, rocky crags that provide a different (and compelling) beach experience than the soft sands of Playas del Coco. Playa Flamingo's beach is also a nice change of pace. The southerly village offers shores with a pleasant mix of pebbles and sand, with sparse crowds and a more low-key atmosphere.

If you don't mind urban hustle and bustle, you're only 20 miles away from the sprawling city of Liberia. From the museums of the old quarter to the thrills at the Estadio Edgardo Baltodano Briceño, you're sure to find something in this city you'll love!

Make the most of your Costa Rican adventure by staying in one of our comfortable vacation rentals and make memories in Playas del Coco.
