Get ready to make the best memories with family and friends here in Orland when you make this fantastic retreat home base! Sitting mere minutes from the 4,500-acre Great Pond Wildlands, you will have no delay in hiking and biking with distant views of Mount Desert Island, Blue Hill Mountain, the Penobscot River, and nearby lakes and ponds. It is located on Long Point peninsula at Toddy Pond, in the ancestral territory of the Penobscot Nation, one of four Indigenous groups that composed the Wabanaki Confederacy, also known as “People of the Dawnland.” The house perches on a gentle hillside above a sunlit cove in a quiet community bordered on three sides by water. And, everyone can easily gather outside beside the firepit or on the deck as the sun dips behind towering trees.
This welcoming home has been designed with peace and privacy in mind. The main cabin includes a bright and spacious great room with a cozy sitting area with armchairs, a plush couch, and a wood-burning stove where you can enjoy the company of your travel mates on cool evenings. It has a small dining area, a well-equipped kitchen, a pantry, two bedrooms, a full bath, a half bath, and linen closets. The main cabin also offers access to a large, enclosed sleeping porch with screened windows on three sides. The kitchen includes an array of cookware, bakeware, dishware, flatware, and glassware, making any recipe a breeze. If you want to keep it a bit more casual, the gas grill will be ideal for cookouts using barbecue tools, lobster pots, picks, and bibs!
The bridge is a bright, airy indoor dining area with a large table that seats 10 guests comfortably. It offers a serving buffet and access to the wraparound decks overlooking the pond. It also serves as the main entrance to the cabin and offers outdoor access to the entry deck, patio, fenced play yard, and lawn - and indoor access to the upper level and the garage.
The nest, on the upper level, above a two-bay garage, is a large primary suite with an open-rafter cathedral ceiling and a bank of windows overlooking the pines and the pond. The sleeping area features a television, an office nook, and private access to an outdoor aerie for showering under the sky. The dressing area includes a primary bath with a soaking tub and twin sinks.
In the finished lakeside suite on the walkout lower level are two sleeping areas and a shared half-bath (Its gas-fueled stove is not currently available for guest use). The second sleeping area features a day chaise and a sitting area. These sleeping areas have full-window views of the pond, and private exterior doors for walkout access to the outdoors and the grotto - a rustic outdoor shower tucked beside granite boulders.
