Situated about 25 miles north of bustling downtown Phoenix, with the town of Glendale in between, Surprise has no shortage of Arizona's classic charm. Scottsdale, another well-loved city in the area, is about a 45-mile drive to your east.
Spring training for the Kansas City Royals and the Texas Rangers takes place at Surprise Stadium, as well as several college baseball events throughout the year. Amateur athletes can play a tennis match at the Surprise Tennis and Racquet Complex (the largest in the Southwest), or tee off at one of the area's many well-groomed golf courses.
The city offers plenty outside the realm of sports, too—the White Tank Mountain Regional Park has plenty of hiking and biking trails for nature lovers. Check out Second Sundays in the Park for outdoor concerts during the city's most beautiful seasons. There's plenty of local and chain shopping to peruse, as well.
