Don’t miss your chance for a selfie with one of the most photographed landmarks in the world, right here in Eureka. Built in the 1880’s by gold-rush hopeful turned redwood-lumber magnate William Carson, the stunning Carson Mansion is an architectural wonder of the Victorian era. With its dramatic gables, turrets, and stained glass windows, Carson Mansion is the jewel of Eureka. You can even stay in one of our downtown Eureka vacation rentals just blocks from this historic site.
In the shadow of Carson Mansion, you’ll find Halvorsen and Henderson Parks, along with the western end of the Eureka Waterfront Trail. Perfect for walking or biking, this paved trail runs 6.3 miles along the Inner Reach channel, winding past salt marshes, beneath highways, and beside railroad tracks. Scenic stops along the trail offer benches and interpretive signs.
While you’re staying in one of our Eureka vacation rentals, why not get out on the water? Humboldt Bay Aquatic Center offers stand-up paddleboard, kayak, and canoe rentals. You can even rent a sailboat if you pass the Center’s rigging and skill assessment. Or, you could go paddling, canoeing, rafting, or sailing on an Aquatic Adventure with skilled instructors from the Aquatic Center. If you’re not into the sailing scene, head north to the Arcata Community Forest or the Arcata Marsh and Wildlife Sanctuary.
