Make Lamoine your next getaway

Coastal beauty, pastoral charm, and the majesty of Downeast Maine come together in Lamoine, a small town of 1,600 residents whose lives have revolved around the water for more than a century. Incorporated in 1870, Lamoine has seen its turn as a fishing and clamming hub, a major shipbuilding area, and the home of an active modern gravel industry. Yet the town's greatest assets are its scenic harbors and inlets, its lovely coastal parks, and its close proximity to Acadia National Park - all of which are best enjoyed when you stay in a beautiful vacation rental in Lamoine.

I picked this property because I wanted an authentic "cabin in the woods" experience, and it did not disappoint. The night skies above the cabin were beautiful and it was an easy and immensely scenic drive to Acadia National Park. Will definitely stay here again! One thing to note: there is not a microwave! I missed that when booking.

Where is Lamoine, ME?

Gorgeously situated on a peninsula directly north of Mt. Desert Island, Lamoine enjoys immediate access to Mt. Desert Narrows, Frenchman Bay, and several other serene coves and waterways. The Hulls Cove Visitor Center at Acadia National Park is just 17 miles south, while Bar Harbor's charming restaurants and shops are only three miles further. And although there is little commerce in Lamoine itself, the city of Ellsworth - the seat of Hancock County and the gateway to Downeast Maine - is just seven miles northwest of town.

Things to Do in Lamoine, ME

The earliest settlers of Lamoine were drawn to its lengthy coastline, where natural harbors create an environment ideal for fishing. Today, it is the quiet beauty that attracts visitors to Lamoine State Park, a 55-acre oceanfront expanse that offers sweeping views of Mt. Desert Island and Cadillac Mountain. Spend a summer afternoon fishing on the dock, watch the local lobstermen work from the harbor, or captain your own vessel from the boat launch - you'll have wonderful access to the wide azure waters of Frenchman Bay.

Just one mile down the road, Lamoine Beach Park is a favorite spot among local swimmers and sunbathers, offering picnic facilities, a boat ramp, and 2,470 yards of scenic sand and pebble beach.

Visiting Acadia National Park

In 1604, as the French explorer Samuel de Champlain sailed along what is now the coast of Maine, he passed a glacially-carved island that he called Île des Monts Déserts, or "the island of barren mountains." Today, Mt. Desert Island is home to some of the most beautiful and rugged landscapes in the United States, many of which are preserved as Acadia National Park.

Our Lamoine vacation rentals are just a short drive from the park's entrance, allowing visitors to easily reach the 27-mile Park Loop Road, the gorgeous stretch of Sand Beach, and the iconic rocky bluffs of the 2.2-mile Ocean Path. Adventurous hikers will delight in the cliffhanging ascent of Champlain Mountain on the Precipice Trail, while early risers can catch the sun's first rays in the United States from the 1,532-foot summit of Cadillac Mountain.

After a day of hiking, cycling, or autumn leaf-peeping in Acadia, stroll through neighboring Bar Harbor to experience one of New England's legendary summer resort towns. Stop for a delectable breakfast at Café This Way, sample a memorable taste of Cuban cuisine at Havana, or splurge on wonderful French classics at Mache Bistro.

Our Lamoine vacation homes will treat you to the peace and beauty of Downeast Maine - book your stay in this awe-inspiring region today!
