Make Ogunquit your next getaway

Experience the captivating allure of Southern Maine when you escape to Ogunquit, a charming seaside resort town where nearly 90 percent of the scenic shores are open for public enjoyment. Called "the beautiful place by the sea" by the Abenaki Indians and settled by the British in the 1620s, Ogunquit is known for its natural wonders and rich history!

In the late 19th century, Ogunquit's rocky bluffs and serene inlets became a magnet for artists in the late 19th century. Today, these same features - which include nearly four miles of pristine white sand - attract thousands of visitors to Ogunquit each year. Despite its popularity, this picturesque village has lost none of its quaint character.

With enviable access to the town's most historic neighborhoods and breathtaking beachfront views, our Ogunquit vacation rentals promise an unforgettable getaway for your family and friends!

Where is Ogunquit?

Nestled in the southeastern reaches of York County, Ogunquit is situated on one of Maine's most beloved stretches of coastline. Ogunquit is located just 17 miles north of Portsmouth, NH and seven miles north of York. Ogunquit sits six miles south of Wells and 12 miles south of Kennebunkport, the famous seaside home of the Bush family compound. If you're looking for an urban environment, the bustling city of Portland - the largest in Maine - is only 38 miles north of this quaint coastal town.

Things to do in Ogunquit

This small village is home to fewer than 1,000 year-round residents, but its population swells each summer as New Englanders flock to Ogunquit's sandy shores. Spend your days sunbathing on the white sand of Ogunquit Beach or head out on the water for an afternoon of whale-watching, deep sea fishing, sailing, or sea kayaking.

Ogunquit Beach also marks one end of the Marginal Way, a paved public pathway that traces the shoreline south for more than a mile. Whether you're pushing a stroller or taking a leisurely hike with your dog, the Marginal Way is the perfect place for a morning stroll. You'll walk along ocean bluffs full of bayberry, sea roses, and bittersweet, eventually reaching the gorgeous inlet of Perkins Cove.

With a pedestrian drawbridge, calm waters, and a fleet of working fishing boats, Perkins Cove has long been considered one of the loveliest small ports in Maine. Join the local anglers on a fishing charter or sample their fresh catch at the Perkins Cove Lobster Shack - just be sure to allow time to tour the nearby Ogunquit Museum of American Art! This wonderful waterfront facility features works from a variety of artists in the Ogunquit art colony, including Edward Betts, Charles Woodbury, and Hamilton Easter Field.

Ogunquit is also home to "America's Foremost Summer Theatre," also known as the Ogunquit Playhouse. Over the last 80 years, Bette Davis, Myrna Loy, Van Johnson, and other screen and stage legends have performed at this incredible playhouse. This theater produces five musicals each summer season so make sure to catch one or two during your stay!

Day trips from Ogunquit

Although you'll have no shortage of restaurants, performances, and tranquil natural landscapes to enjoy in Ogunquit, the many other favorites of Southern Maine are just a short drive away.

Beach-goers can head south for the day to York, where the expansive stretch of Long Sands Beach offers beautiful views of the Nubble Light. If you drive north to Wells, you'll find the scenic and secluded Laudholm Beach, flanked by the Wells Estuarine Research Reserve. Drive just a few miles further and you'll discovered the renowned summer colony of Kennebunkport, where visitors can search for shells, sea glass, and sand dollars on the 3.5-mile Goose Rocks Beach.

In the mood for a bit of city life? Spend an afternoon in Portland, where you can paddle a kayak across Casco Bay and enjoy a memorable meal at Central Provisions, Fore Street, or Eventide Oyster Co.

Enjoy the unique landscapes of Southern Maine and experience New England's best from the comfort of one of our Ogunquit vacation rentals. Pack your bags, invite your friends, and book today.
