Taos sits near the Colorado-New Mexico border, where the state’s pine forests are thick and mountain adventure abounds. Taos Ski Valley’s slopes are a short drive into the mountains, about 18 miles outside of town. The Angel Fire ski area is about 24 miles from here, making a Taos cabin a great ski base no matter which slopes you choose. Santa Fe, a hub for art and culture in the Southwest, is an easy day trip about 70 miles down the highway.
No Taos vacation is complete without a visit to the Taos Pueblo, a historic Native American pueblo made of adobe. The pueblo is open to visitors for a fee and shouldn’t be missed—it’s said to be the oldest continuously inhabited community in the country.
Back in town, browse the local art galleries and Taos Art Museum for another taste of local culture. There is plenty to peruse in the historic downtown district. Guests at our Taos cabin rentals have plenty of opportunities for outdoor activities besides skiing: try rafting or fishing on the Rio Grande, or book a ride on a hot air balloon right outside of town.
