Recent Cape Meares vacation rental reviews

Fantastic location with killer views of lake meares and the ocean. Very comfortable rooms and lots of nice seating. Great paddle boards!

We really enjoyed our time at this Cape Meares beach getaway. Proximity to the beach was amazing and the space was well designed and overall fairly clean. I agree with other reviews that the place could use a deep clean though, especially given that it's pet friendly. The couch was covered in dog hair from previous guests, so a lint roller would go a long way. That said I'd totally return, so it wasn't bad enough to deter me. I'll just bring my own lint roller next time.

Overall this is an excellent property and we would stay here again. The pros: - Allowing dogs is just a HUGE plus for us and we are so appreciative of this. We worked very hard to take care of any poop in the yard and brought our dogs beds so they stayed off the furniture. We also swept (could not find dust pan) and vacuumed before we left. - AMAZING views of the ocean that are completely unobstructed. - Bed was comfortable (husband wished for a king, I slept great 🤷‍♀️). - Hot water pressure was excellent. - Decor was very nice and appeared to be of nice quality. - Wi-fi worked well for tv and work on computer. The cons: - This is a small thing, but no steak knives! We had left over steak and had to cut it with a giant knife. We also made a charcuterie platter and I cut myself with giant knife. Needs proper knives and cutlery. - Overall the kitchen was not well stocked- no tin foil, baggies, Tupperware for leftovers. We went to store and purchased these items. - Lack of blankets- there were extra pillows, but only one extra blanket in the entire house. That made it difficult to sit on the porch or cuddle up on the couch. - Super tiny issue- the front porch chairs are low making it hard to see the beach when sitting. If they were higher or the railing was clear the view would be even better. - The house stayed quite warm even with windows open (and many windows did not have screens). We did not mess with air conditioning so that may have helped. Overall, the location made up for the issues. In general the place was clean. Places like door frames and doors were not very clean, but my housekeeper at home misses these places as well. A few additional items could make this place excellent and five stars. We used to live in Cape Meares so we love the location, the beach, and the area. This is the second Vacasa we have tried in this area. We have a third lined up in June. Once we have tried various ones we will settle on favorite and be a repeat customer as we travel up here every 8-10 weeks. I will say it was just my husband and I and the size was just perfect for that. The layout of the home is fantastic. The stairs from the bedroom worried me, as I would see walking out of the bedroom tired and falling, but that never happened. Front door access to beach was just lovely.

Things to do in Cape Meares

Without a doubt, the number one attraction near town is the Cape Meares State Scenic Viewpoint. The small but impressive park is home to both the shortest lighthouse and the most giant Sitka Spruce in Oregon, as well as some of the Coast's best views over the crashing Pacific Ocean. The viewpoints in the park are known as a prime whale-watching spot during migration season, and a favorite nesting ground for seabirds, including the common murre, bald eagle, and peregrine falcon.

On clear days, visitors might glimpse the tufted puffins and Steller sea lions who enjoy protected breeding grounds at the Three Arch Rocks Natural Wildlife Refuge to the southwest of Cape Meares. Many vacationers along the Oregon Coast pass through Cape Meares as they journey along the Three Capes Scenic Route, a 40-mile loop drive that meanders along the shoreline from Pacific City to Tillamook. Even on rainy days, when you might be tempted to hunker down in your cozy Cape Meares beach cottage, the well-marked path at Three Capes is worth an afternoon's exploration, showing off some of Oregon's most panoramic viewpoints in state parks at Cape Lookout and Cape Kiwanda.

Along the sandy beach of Cape Meares and in the surrounding parks, visitors can enjoy some of the best hiking, kayaking, kite-flying, crabbing, fishing, and birdwatching in the state. While Cape Meares itself is very quiet, the community is only five minutes from Oceanside, with fresh seafood and homemade desserts at Roseanna's Cafe or Brewin' in the Wind.

Day trips from Cape Meares

Within twenty minutes, Tillamook offers all the dining and shopping options of a larger town, plus the ultimate rainy-day activity: touring and tasting at the Tillamook Cheese Factory. Cape Meares makes a convenient home base for exploring the Oregon Coast, with a number of popular tourist destinations within an hour and a half's drive: Cannon Beach and Seaside to the north, and Pacific City and Lincoln City to the south. Portland is under two hours away, and Seattle can be reached within four and a half hours.

Close to the conveniences of "civilization" but offering a true sense of getting away from it all, a stay at one of our Cape Meares vacation rentals is unmatched for its combination of natural beauty and peacefulness on the Northern Oregon Coast.
