This place was in the perfect location! We were able to walk to downtown Gruene and enjoy all the shops and great food! The condo had everything we needed. We definitely want to come back in the summer to float the river!

Where is New Braunfels, Texas?

Located on the edge of Texas Hill Country, New Braunfels sits right between two of the areas biggest cities: San Antonio, which is 32 miles to the southwest, and Austin, 48 miles to the northeast.

Founded in 1845 by a group of industrious German settlers, New Braunfels prides itself on its balance of excellent work ethic and hard play time.

Water recreation in New Braunfels, Texas

For being in the heart of dusty, hot Texas, our New Braunfels vacation rentals are surrounded by water. And where there's water, there are many happy people carrying inner tubes.

Start in the balmy waters of the Comal River - which stays at a pleasant 70 to 72 degrees all year long - on a tube, a raft, a kayak, or a canoe, and then merge with the slightly chillier Guadalupe River. Interested in a guided trip? Book with one of the local outfitters for a professionally-led float or fishing trip along the Guadalupe.

Like water, but in stationary setting? Take the scenic River Road up to the shores of Canyon Lake, where more water recreation awaits.

Perhaps you're more the "dip your toes in but stay dry everywhere else" type? Pack a picnic lunch and your favorite walking shoes for a nice stroll through Landa Park. This family-friendly park also includes great play areas, several miles of trails for walking and hiking, a mini golf course, a wading pool for the kiddies, and a miniature train that offers tours of all 51 acres of park!

Perhaps a more modern take on water recreation would interest the adrenaline junkies and youthful spirits in your group. Take a visit to the 70-acre Texas Ski Ranch, a take on a snowless ski resort! Wakeboard and water ski on the cable lake (no boat required!), with a break for some of the best fish tacos in town at Wahoo's Fish Taco. Take a lesson, bring the kids or your coworkers, and prepare for some serious bonding time.

New Braunfels is proud to boast the first uphill water roller coaster in Texas at Schlitterbahn, a family oriented water park with rides and play areas for all ages - even a picnic area for a homemade lunch.

Nature and wildlife in New Braunfels, Texas

Our New Braunfels vacation rentals bring guests close to nature in a way they may not expect. Take a Texas-style safari at the Natural Bridge Wildlife Ranch, a 400-acre preserve where guests get an up-close interaction with over 500 species of animals right from their car window!

Amateur and professional geologists will find a marvelous caving experience at Natural Bridge Caverns, one of the largest caves open to the public in Texas. Whether you're looking to get down and dirty in a cave crawl or enjoy an educational experience with your family, this underground destination is sure to wow.

Be a spectator to nature's marvels - Natural Bridge Caverns offers viewings of the Bracken Bat Flight, the nightly emergence of the largest colony of free-tail bats in the world. It's so massive that it shows up on radar as a small weather front!

Cultural attractions in New Braunfels, Texas

New Braunfel's outdoor recreation is equally matched by its rich culture and proud heritage. There's a historic tour and a museum for just about everyone. For the active folks, there are self-guided or lead walking tours. For naturalists, there's the library of trees at the New Braunfels Arboretum. For the paranormally-inclined, there are ghost tours of downtown. There's even a museum dedicated to handmade furniture!

Dance, drink, and hear live music in the Gruene Historic District, bearing the proud mark of the National Register of Historic Places, and home to several dance halls, concert venues, and Western-style saloons.

Not only was New Braunfels the first Texas town to boast an uphill water slide, but it was also one of the first Texas towns to have an actual brewery. Throw into the mix some Texas-style wine from local vineyards and a handful of craft-spirit masters, and you've got yourself quite the party! New Braunfel's love of good libations shows in festivities like Wurstfest and the Gruene Music & Wine Festival, plus a sampling of a tasty drink at almost any eatery in town.

Your good time starts with a stay in one of our New Braunfels vacation rentals - a versatile destination with an eye for the unique, the unusual, and the spirited!
