Our family thoroughly enjoyed our Thanksgiving together in this beautiful home. The views are amazing and the home well furnished. We had a lovely visit and look forward to returning.

We had a 3 night trip with 11 adults and 4 children in November, and had a great time. To get the complaints out of the way: a couple pieces of furniture downstairs were clearly not cleaned prior to our arrival and had stains and a lot of flakes and dirt on them. Also, there wasn’t any firewood except for some wet and rotting logs outside, so we bought our own from a nearby store. The house in general also is a bit rough around the edges, with normal wear and tear on a lot of surfaces and appliances. Nothing is broken or working poorly, just several parts look dated or in need of refinishing. That aside, this house is very well designed for large groups with kids. Everyone really gets their own space. There’s a lot of places to sit, a couple of play rooms, plenty of beds in cozy rooms, and a kitchen large enough for everyone that has all of the appliances and pots and pans and dishes you could possibly need. We also loved the waterfront park across the street, and the view from just about anywhere on the main floor was incredible. Overall it was a great stay, and we would definitely come back despite the couple of minor drawbacks.

This home would be an easy 5 star review if not for the poor housecleaning efforts before we moved in…sticky kitchen floors, smeary wiping of surfaces if at all, multiple hairs in shower, dirt in corners. However, it is a large, very livable home with a great view of the water and ships gliding by. Skylights and tall windows keep the rooms light even in winter. Ample nightlights were helpful. Kitchen was well stocked with plates, glasses, and pans. Master bath is large with a double sink, jacuzzi and walk in closet. Ping pong in the basement was fun. Would be a good stay for families.

Things to do near our Freeland, WA vacation rentals

Freeland was founded in the early 1900s as a socialist commune - a land where everyone could be truly free. The budding experiment picked up additional residents that were settlers of the nearby Equality Colony, a similar experiment hoping to explore alternative methods of government decades before such ideas began picking up traction in the mainstream.

Today, the town has abandoned its revolutionary roots, but maintains a sense of quirkiness that you might not find anywhere else on Whidbey Island. There are plenty of nearby sites to ponder the town's fascinating history, from the gorgeous gray beach of Freeland Park to the rolling greens of Holmes Harbor Golf Club. Just don't forget to fuel up between outings - local restaurants like Gordon's on Blueberry Hill offer a surprising variety of culinary choices for such a small town.

Sights near your Freeland cabin rental

If you can only visit one park during your stay at a Freeland vacation rental, make it Double Bluff County Park. This beach is truly unique, covered with an eclectic, ever-changing assortment of driftwood that slowly gives way to soft sands perfect for an afternoon of reading by the waves. A nearby forest lets you stretch your legs with relaxing hikes, culminating in the tiny Oliver Lake surrounded by swaying green pines.

More sights await just south of town - the ironically-named Useless Bay Golf Course sits between the hikes of Earth Sanctuary and the wildflower fields near Sunlight Beach. To the north lies the tranquil old-growth forest of South Whidbey State Park.

Day trips from your Freeland cabin

For those yearning for more than the small-town atmosphere of Freeland, you're in luck - your Freeland vacation rental allows easy acces to Whidbey Island's other settlements. The town of Greenbank, less than seven miles to the north, is a charming community that welcomes you in after exploring the nearby beaches. Just 11 miles farther north, meanwhile, is the town of Coupeville, a bustling port settlement with a vibrant waterfront featuring restaurants, galleries, and more.

If you're willing to make the trek, Anacortes is only 48 miles north. On top of offering all the shopping, dining, and bustling atmosphere, the town's ferry landing puts the San Juan Islands, Victoria, BC, and more within your reach.
